After cancelling the trip twice due to weather and other unforeseen circumstances, we finally got everyone together. The weather forecast the day before wasn't great, so I was a bit worried, but it ended up being a perfect evening! We enjoyed a tasty dinner of Chicken Marsala, fresh fruit, baked potatoes, butter rolls and strawberry shortcake from Russ'. Then we headed up to the top deck and enjoyed a cruise around Lake Macatawa, through the channel and out to Lake Michigan. Enjoy the pics!

Dinner Cruise
This past Tuesday night, Brian and I invited my parents and both sets of grandparents to join us for a dinner cruise on the Holland Princess. This was our way of saying "thank you" for all the babysitting and help they provide us during the school year with Samuel and Carter. It means so much to us to have family members who are willing to help us out and love on our kids.

Our cousin Andrew just happened to be on the channel photographing someone for his business as we passed by!

This is the best family pic we could get...considering Dad was the photographer!

The entertainment was sort of lame, but Brian stepped up and did some karaoke to liven things up!

Camping Adventures
This past weekend we decided to try our first camping trip as a family. I was fully expecting a disaster of some sort, but to my surprise, we had a really great time! We borrowed our neighbor's pop-up camper and found the perfect campground with grassy sites and a playground and swimming pool. The boys played hard and slept equally hard! I think we just might try it again sometime!
Our campsite at Baldwin Oaks Campground (thanks Tammy for the suggestion!)
Sam spent hours in the pool and loves to swim with his goggles
Carter loved splashing in his new floatie.
Roasting marshmallows at night. Daddy doesn't know what he's missing!
The playground was literally about 30 feet away from our campsite, so Brian and I sat around the campfire and could watch Sam play. Here he at the top of the fort getting ready to go down the slide.
Occasionally we brought Carter over to the playground too and he loved running through the big cement tunnels.
While Carter loved running through the tunnels, Sam preferred jumping OFF the tunnels!
Both boys loved the swings.

One of the neighboring campers developed a little crush on Sam and followed him around everywhere and even tried rubbing his back and hair! Sam was clueless to it all, but Mama Bear was ready to step in and show her claws!
Here's the gang of kids plotting some sort of trouble.
Sam found some boys to hang out with and they spent hours playing "army". This is pretty much what he looked the entire trip...riding his bike with a gun in hand. His father was so proud.
Saturday evening my parents (along with Mya and Owen) and the Timmers came out to visit. Here's Sam swimming with Samantha and Brynn Timmer.
Sam was so excited that Cousin Mya came to visit too!
Carter and Owen enjoyed chillin together in the playpen.
The kids got so excited about the Baldwin Oak Bike Parade!

Brian and Mark playing some stupid game called "Hot Coals"...yes, they are really throwing a hot coal straight out of the fire pit back and forth to each other!

It was a great weekend and the kids were pooped when we got home. Sam refused to nap, of course, and then promptly crashed out on the couch!

Carter's 1st Birthday!
One year ago on July 16, 2008 at 11:05 p.m., our little family of 3 became 4 with the arrival of Carter Jacob Beckham...

One year later...our little guy isn't much of a baby anymore. :(

We had a mini-celebration on Carter's actual birthday, but the big party with all the grandmas and grandpas will be in a couple of weeks with Cousin Owen who will also be turning 1! Sam helped me make a chocolate cake and we had some good laughs watching Carter make a complete mess of himself.

The Beckham side of the family lives far away, but they are always so thoughtful to send their gifts (some for Sam too!) so we had more fun tearing open the presents!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! WE LOVE YOU CARTER!!
